I wrote a tongue in cheek page a while ago about being a ‘Hampshire SEO guru‘. Definitely only a bit of fun and simply a way of highlighting some basic search engine optimisation techniques.
This had been triggered by seeing someone in Hampshire use the ‘G word’ in a press release about himself. I suspect all written with a straight face too.
What I do find alarming about the SEO industry is the amount of noise it generates and how some SEOs are elevated to god-like status simply because they seem to be fond of conferences and microphones.
It doesn’t seem a week goes by when there isn’t yet another awards ceremony in the ‘digital space’. Who knows, for a small entry fee, you may stand a chance of winning our prestigious SEO award for ‘Best SEO ranking for a phrase beginning with B‘. You just might…
It’s intriguing to observe how this is all developing within the SEO space but I can’t help wonder why this industry in particular seems to attract so many big egos. Are there any other professions where someone who happens to be quite good at their job becomes a ‘minor celeb‘ just because they’re prepared to talk about what it is they do for a living? OK then, apart from football!
Personally, I’m tired of listening to all of this bullshit and just hope it settles down one day. SEO guru? Not for me, thank you!
